The model is designed to handle most tasks, passing only the most complex cases to GPT-5.4. According to Microsoft, this setup reduces costs by 50 percent while maintaining high performance. The model is based on the MAI-Thinking-1 line, and when combined with GPT-5.4, it achieves nearly 96 percent on CyberGym, a benchmark for detecting security flaws in large codebases. This score surpasses that of Mythos, Gemini, and GPT. The company emphasized that MAI-Cyber-1-Flash is part of its broader strategy to become an AI model orchestrator, leveraging its data advantage of over 100 trillion daily security signals and 1.6 million customers. Microsoft is also launching Perception, an agent-based security system for real-time threat monitoring and mitigation. The company said the MDASH system with MAI-Cyber-1-Flash and GPT-5.4 scores nearly 96 percent on CyberGym, beating Gemini, GPT, and Mythos. Microsoft still relies on OpenAI for complex reasoning, but the setup fits its evolving role as an AI model orchestrator. That same shift has turned the Redmond company into an open-weights advocate after years of fueling Azure growth through exclusive OpenAI distribution.
